The Proposal

We drank cookies and cream flavour vodka
From  assorted eggcups instead of shot glasses,
Lacking the sophistication to cook anything
That was more substantial than beans on toast,
And idly speculating if a call to the takeaway
Counted as cooking -  if you had to take time
To flip the oven on low to warm up the plates.
You proposed, with a plastic lucky-bag ring
Candles burned low in their beer-bottle holders,
With pizza and a sweet dessert of cheesecake
Shared with only one bent spoon and laughter,
Together with you, I  believed I had the world.
