Roswell...? by rockgem Roswell...? by rockgem
OK for a while a fellow deviant Virgin Prune :iconvirginprune: has been telling me to try out some fractals - so bring on Apophysis and me being a tad clueless so randomly hitting keys and typing in numeric values I decided to see what might happen - from there I kept seeing pictures in the shapes so took some of them into photoshop to edit then to emphasis here and there some of the shapes I was seeing
Ok so technically this image and a few others like it are edited fractals but are still more fractal than anything else so hence I put them in the fractal category. - sorry if this is incorrect ><

ok i randomly created a fractal that looked to me partly like a skull - so i took it into photoshop and edited it a little this came out an i love it! its delightful creepy - else i should not have watched the most recent Indiana Jones movie before i bean to create :giggle:

EDIT : this image is also used on a band teeshirt logo (with my express permission ) the relevant design for that can be found here can be found here [link]

Whoa. This is awesome. You created this by just doing random things in Apophysis and then touching it up in Photoshop? That is amazing. It's a cool looking alien skull. It would be cool to see another more detailed (detail as in skin/scales and eyeballs, etc) drawing. I'm new to your art so I'm not sure if that is something you do or have already done or not.

I like this though. It has good detail. The eyes are cool. It looks like it has ears, but since this looks more like a skull than a complete head, they would probably be horns. It looks like it has a problem with it's teeth though, maybe aliens don't have good dental care. xD The rings on the top of it's head are interesting, I wonder what they would be.

Great job!

thankyou so very much for the compliment on this work of mine - it was one of my first sort of dabblings along this sort of line where i began to pull what i created in apophysis into photoshop.
more detail as in a full face etc hasn't been done in my work but it could well be a future consideration ( from time to time i start to forget what work i have and have not got :faint: )

someone mentioned due to the pointed shapes it looked like 'wolverine' :giggle: that made me chuckle - i kept the teeth faint - in the stereotypical alien depictions they often have weaker mouth shapes and larger heads and eyes ( large brains and telepathy supposedly maybe that explains the rings? :P ) so i kept the mouth a lot smaller and fainter

most my work boils down to luck - i play with apophysis and see what comes out the other side :D thankyou again for the compliments :aww:

lol well a friend of mine Marcus ~VirginPrune introduced me to apophysis but never told me how to use it so i sort of just made it up as i went along and then just take my little abstracts from the random batches into photoshop or GIMP from that point i can usually build up more complex images either scenes or more complex abstracts - i did write a basic tutorial on doing that as well as creating 'fake fractal' effects in abstracts with photoshop. - i do intend to write something by means of tutorial on my more representative works such as the still life pieces in the future

Now, I know you see a skull, but I can see two doves colliding, too - ;)..It's pretty cool the creations you've come up with...inspiring thoughts come from them-

its one of those pieces that many people have commented on what the see, i though initially an alien skull hence the title but its been pointed out to me it looks a bit like wolverine as well :giggle: i didn't notice the dove shapes until you just pointed them out i love it when people see other things in my work that i miss when originally creating it. thankyou for taking the time to look at some of my pieces

That's the great thing about the nature of what you're creating, it allows the evolution within the minds eye to wander off into all directions...it especially holds true to those on this site, which is a collective of artists and you know all too well the minds they consist of, lol...

 very much so, imagination is what helps me create - all my fractals start off as random little abstract shapes and random batch fractals then every so often i think 'that looks a bit like a bird' or something if a friend is watching over my shoulder they might see the same or say 'wait i see something different' then the one shape has the potential of becoming two very different things :aww:
to be able to have somewhere online like dA for such a collective of artistic minds and personalities is for the most part wonderful.

i downloaded it a couple of years back now end of 2008 start of 2009 ish and dabbled i could get shapes but not know how to use them as it were - so i just used to start with hitting the print screen key and pasting into photoshop or GIMP and seeing what i could do with them from there - its basic yes but it did the trick and got me my DD's since then i've sort of refined that a little more ( i actualyl know how to render fractals etc) but sometimes for speed sake i do hit the print screen key - its a trusty friend in my creating lol

Yeah, that's a really unique approach.

O man, I want a DD so badly.

unique perhaps but its got me off on the right foot as it were and inspired a few other deviants - there are a lot of groups dedicated to this sort of thing especially now that fractal manipulation has its own sub category.

you never know who might spot a piece of your work and suggest it as one i shall keep my fingers crossed for you :fingerscrossed:

mine are not strictly speaking true fractals though. mostly fractal manipulations usually basic shapes from apophysis that i thought could be interesting that i then went to town with in photoshop. the thing that throws some people are my earlier abstracts that do look fractal like but ended up generated completley using photoshop like this one [link]

I can see some sort of cat demon in it, it's interesting what this kind of art can create out of the imagination. I really like this it's so complicatedly simple, I would consider buying this as a print as I could really just stare and stare at it. It is darkly sublime. :)

i find myself staring at it and at the same time its facinating and creepy the softer focus on it plays with the eye as well - it makes your mind work some to imagine it clearer it was an accidental thing but worked to great effect i really canlt believe how popular this image is - if you like i will send you the file
