Literature Text

Like shattered glass catching the light
My wholeness became fragmented;
I took to leaving little pieces of myself,
In the gifts I sent for friends to find.
Even though most of them misplaced
Those parts and sentiments.
I handed out kind words, compliments,
Shared smiles like too much candy,
And fractured my heart like peanut brittle
With the swift blow of a toffee hammer--
To share that into bites greedily devoured.
All these gestures on my part meaning nothing--
Generosity never repaid.

A holiday treat poem with a distinctly unholiday theme. Not bad.
