Ivy Tattoo - Front by rockgem Ivy Tattoo - Front by rockgem
Ok this is my tattoo - completed or the ivy part at least
I designed this myself and the original design can be found here. [link]
It extends from my left hip up and round my side to just below my left shoulder
The outline took a 2 hour sitting and the colours took another 3 hours

Edit: another 3 hour sitting is booked for the 15th July to extend the ivy leaves down along the thigh and add some orange butterflies

why ivy? its my Celtic moonsign (along with the butterfly that is)

The tattoo artist that’s put this design onto my skin is a talented bloke Lee Pound at One shot Charlie’s in Stourbridge

A couple of other pictures of this

And some work in progress shots

The original design

glad you like it - worst part was the bottom of the ribs! :faint: although the sensation of getting tattooed across your stomach after a full English breakfast is also a very odd one!

thankyou :aww: i've had a bit more work done since i took this shot - but still a long way to go until i get it finished - cause the ivy is going to sort of act as a part frame for a back piece because it winds round my sides (both now) and finishes just below my shoulders

thankyou - its been extended a little more since then and the same pattern is repeated on my other side now.
to be fair the tattooist had done a lot of custom pieces for friends thus i asked him to tackle all the ivy i wanted - hes probably sick of green ink now haha

lol!!!it must have been a bit difficult to extend the same pattern on the opposite side,i have a few tatoo artist friends and they say its hard to get a mirror image of anything over the curvature of the body!poor guy is probably tired of ivy!!!!lol!!!good stuff!!!

i just printed the same outline off in a mirror image - its not exactly the same but its as close as we were gonna get it, besides the human body isn't symmetrical so ti get it exact would be near impossible

Nice. I have been wanting the poison ivy vine tattoo as well. I am getting a friend to draw it for me with her own artist touch.

well this is a little less poison ivy and more influenced by the fact that my Celtic moon sign is the ivy sign and the butterfly sign - a later picture of this shows it with the addition of butterflies

I hope to be able to see it then. I really like it. It is very cute.

I just looked at your gallery. Did you design all those tattoo artworks? If so that is totally amazing. I wish I had talent like that.

I'm going to extend the tattoo I have in about a month to go up my side like this..I'm afraid I won't be able to stand the pain! How was it when they went over your ribs? Compared to the rest of it anyway...

lol i can say the oddest part was near my stomach - made me so glad that i opted to decline the fry-up breakfast before the inking haha - ribs were sore but a lot depends on the individual i found the worst part for me was just below my ribs/ by my bottom rib

thankyou. i'm considering copying the pattern now on the other side of my body - so it serves as a frame for a potential back piece - as of yet those further plans are just that plans

honeysuckle would be a really cool look on the other side, maybe entwining on or around your back, both plants meeting and growing up towards the base of your neck :-)

well the main reason for the ivy as stated in the artist comment is that its my celtic moonsign :giggle: thus far as my designs are going down onto paper i'm going to hint at part archways (crumbling stone like) with gargoyles on them one on each shoulder the curve of the arches leading into possible wing shapes - the wings shapes also being drawn in a way to make them look like crumbling stone. its early days yet i really need to get the other side done first so i know how much room i have left to work .

i love drawing although i find more and more i work with the computer and make digital art

i think it has a lot to do with culture - its only really in recent times that tattoos are becoming more acceptable and more and more recognised as an art form . my dad always had tattoos so he would never have disapproved - i am planning to get one in memory of him eventually and my mom approves of my choices as long as i am happy.
i think the fascination i find with tattoos is they are a personal expression about the person who has them and in turn they are a living piece of art.

people might say getting a tattoo done is a hard thing to do but i found it more tricky to take a photograph of myself and show it
