Clashing...Clashing longings; a want for both company and solitude,
Sunlight bravely struggling to eke over the horizon
The shortest day still yet to come and pass--
The regrets of the year still seem to be stacking up;
All to be swept under the rug of good intentions,
Laid haphazardly on the creaking boards
Of the coming new year resolutions
None of them made to genuinely be kept.

December Night.The sounds of owl-calls haunt me;
At least they’re paired in their nightly hunt,
As one day--without pause, slips into the next.
Artificial lights provide a cold comfort
In these the longest of alone-nights.
